Besiktas’ experienced centre-back Dusko Tosic is interesting Celtic – along with Premier League giants Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
Celtic’s centre-back search appears to have led them to Besiktas’ two-time title winning veteran Dusko Tosic.
According to Fotospor, the Scottish Champions are interested in signing the 32-year-old Serb with a deal for RB Leipzig’s Marvin Compper looking unlikely due to an injury crisis at the Bundesliga club.
Tosic, who joined Besiktas in 2015 and has won the Super Lig in each of his two seasons with the Istanbul giants, has been reborn as a centre-back under coach Senol Gunes and has formed an exceptional partnership with Pepe in Turkey.
But Celtic are not the only club who have reportedly enquired about this late blooming talent. According to Fanatik on Thursday, Premier League giants Everton have opened talks about the possible signing of Tosic.
New Toffees boss Sam Allardyce will make it his priority to sort out a defence that was leaking goals left right and centre prior to his arrival. And the experienced Tosic, who can also play at left-back, could be an astute addition.
Fotomac also linked Tottenham Hotspur with the defender, claiming that they would be willing to pay £9 million. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that Tottenham’s rather thin squad has struggled at times to balance Champions League football with domestic matters.
But with Fotomac claiming that Celtic value Tosic at around £2.5 million, far less than the fee Spurs and Everton are capable of offering, it appears that Brendan Rodgers’ side may already be fighting a losing battle.
Money talks and Celtic simply cannot compete with the Premier League.
