Premier League newcomers Aston Villa reportedly want to sign Dutch defender Terence Kongolo from relegated Huddersfield Town.
Aston Villa have already shattered their transfer window once this summer with Wesley Moraes arriving from Club Brugge for £22 million. And, if they really want to sign Terence Kongolo, they will have to do so again.
The Mail reported on Tuesday that Aston Villa have enquired about snapping up Huddersfield Town’s Dutch international centre-back, a player who joined The Terriers for a club record £17.5 million last summer from Monaco.
And despite Huddersfield’s relegation, putting them in a position where keeping hold of a player like Kongolo is nigh-on impossible, that does not mean Jan Siewert’s side are willing to let him just walk out the door.
According to The Mirror (19 June, page 48), Huddersfield will demand more than £25 million for a player who made his name at Feyenoord.
Such a fee would make Kongolo the most expensive player in Aston Villa’s history with Wesley holding the record for a matter of days.
But with Aston Villa’s billionaire owners keen to splash the cash, Kortney Hause, Anwar El-Ghazi and Jota have also signed on the dotted line already, don’t be surprised if Kongolo is the next player posing in a new claret and blue strip.
