Tottenham Hotspur failed to win their first Premier League game of the season.
Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton on the opening day of the Premier League season.
It was very much a game of two halves for Spurs at Goodison Park, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side impressing after the break after an abject first-half showing which yielded one shot at Everton’s goal throughout the opening 45 minutes.
There was disappointment at the other end when goalkeeper Hugo Lloris went off injured 10 minutes before the half-time break, leaving Michel Vorm to deputise.
Ross Barkley had fired the Toffees ahead on four minutes but a very decent header from Erik Lamela cancelled that one out on the hour mark.
Vincent Janssen was left on the bench for his Premier League debut, but the Dutch hitman replaced Eric Dier on 56 minutes and Tottenham instantly improved.
He was also a touch unlucky not to mark his Spurs bow with a goal but a tidy save from Maarten Stekelenburg kept him out.
Overall there were positives and negatives for Pochettino, but Tottenham legend Ardiles has highlighted two bright points in the form of Lamela and Janssen.
