Archie Gray has labelled his long-range goal during Leeds United’s U23s 3-0 win over Manchester United’s youngsters as ‘decent’, as he posted on his Instagram story.
In truth, the 16-year-old’s first goal for the U23s was more than decent, as he made use of the goalkeeper being out of his box, before thumping an effort from around 35 yards out.
It was an evening to forget for those in Manchester because, not only were the senior side getting knocked out of the Champions League, but the youngsters were getting humbled at Elland Road.
Overall in the season, things may not have gone as rosy as Leeds U23s would have liked in Premier League 2, but they enjoyed one of their better games last night.
Nonetheless, this was the message Leeds’ rising star posted on his IG story after the game.
“Nice 3-0 win against Man U,” said Gray. “Decent goal for my 16th birthday.”
Under Marcelo Bielsa, Gray did make the bench for Leeds to indicate what those in charge think of him.
Of course, Bielsa is no longer at the club and it will be interesting to see what Jesse Marsch thinks of the midfielder.
But given that Gray has only turned 16, he has years and years left to breakthrough a make a name for himself.
Leeds have been notorious for bringing through players over the years, one of them includes Kalvin Phillips who is perhaps the club’s best player.
That’s an example for the great-nephew of club legend, Eddie Gray, that he has a bright future in Yorkshire.
