West Ham United are currently just a point outside the relegation zone.

West Ham United defender Alvaro Arbeloa has told the club’s official website that the main thing they can do as players to turn around the club’s poor form is working hard in midweek.

The Hammers have endured a disastrous first half to the campaign, with just three wins in 14 games so far.

They were handed their most disappointing result of the season on Saturday as they were beaten 5-1 by Arsenal at the London Stadium.

That result left the Hammers sitting 17th in the table and just a point outside of the relegation zone.

It is a far cry from their fine first season under Slaven Bilic last year and Arbeloa says they must work hard in midweek to try to turn things around.

“Of course this is a very tough time for everyone at the club and we are facing pressure because we need points,” he told the club’s official website.

“The main thing we can do as players is to work even harder during the week and when we are on the pitch, we need to stay together and fight until the end.”

“We need to be ready for everything and focused on the game. We need to do everything perfect and do our best. That is the only thing we can do now.”

Unfortunately for West Ham, this weekend is not likely to be when they can turn their season around.

They travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool, who will be keen to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing 4-3 loss to Bournemouth.

After that, though, they take on Burnley, Hull City and Swansea City and given they are currently 15th, 19th and 20th in the table respectively, that is an ideal opportunity for the Hammers to find the win they need.
