Everton are interested in hiring Italian boss Walter Mazzarri, according to The Sun.

Mazzarri managed at Watford last season, and his time at the Hornets could give the Toffees an edge in their desire to sign striker M’Baye Niang.

Niang was linked with a move to Everton in the summer, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that a switch was close.

Everton did not get the transfer over the line, and while Niang did clinch a move away from AC Milan, it was not a long term one.

The former France under-21 international signed with Serie A side Torino, but only on a season long loan.

Mazzarri signed Niang on loan at Watford last season and helped him become an instant success.

AC Milan's forward from France Mbaye Niang kicks and fail a penalty kick during the Italian Serie A football match Roma vs AC Milan at the Olympic Stadium in Roma on December 12, 2016.

Niang has had an inconsistent career to date, but a reunion with Mazzarri at Everton could suit all parties, with the Toffees low on strikers.

Current manager Ronald Koeman hopes to still have several months to save his job before the end of the season.

If he had moved for Niang in the summer, he may be in a stronger position than he is at present.
