Former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has emerged as a shock managerial candidate for Everton.

Guus Hiddink may be one of the most respected managers of the last 40 years, a European Cup winner with PSV and former coach of Real Madrid, but you could certainly make the claim that he has become something of a Sam Allardyce figure in his later years.
The 70-year-old veteran is now seen as the ultimate footballing firefighter, arriving to save the day at crisis-ridden teams with his intelligent man management and calming influence.
It should not come as much of a shock, then, that an Everton side sitting in the Premier League relegation zone with just eight points from ten games have sounded out Hiddink as a potential replacement for Ronald Koeman, per The Mirror.

Appointing the Dutchman would be a smart move but it’s difficult to ignore the fact that it’s little more than a quick fix. Hiddink is obviously not a long-term solution and it is certainly no coincidence that he has emerged as a genuine candidate with so many of Everton’s preferred options looking increasingly unlikely.
Carlo Ancelotti has already made clear that he intends to spend some time out of the limelight after being sacked by Bayern Munich. Sky Sports report that Sean Dyche is Everton’s primary target but the gravel-voiced gaffer appears more than happy with life at Burnley.

Watford’s Marco Silva has also distanced himself from the role, Thomas Tuchel appears to have better offers while Tuttomercatoweb reports that Walter Mazzarri has his eyes on the AC Milan job.
Hiddink, then, would bring stability back to Everton and most likely guide them serenely up the table. But his appointment as the new Goodison Park gaffer would only serve to highlight the desperation taking hold at Everton.
