Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is planning for a future in the Premier League, amid reported interest from West Ham United and Leicester City, as he told Goal.

By his own admission, 2020/21 has been something of a struggle for the 13-time Germany international.

Tah is no longer a guaranteed starter at the Bay Arena and, in November, he made history for all the wrong reasons as the German national team suffered their heaviest defeat since 1931 as Spain ran riot in Seville.

It remains to be seen, then, whether the former Hamburg youngster is still a target for Premier League clubs when the transfer window opens in January.

The Telegraph reported over the summer that Fulham and Leicester City were admirers of a commanding, ball-playing central defender, while Arsenal have also shown a ‘great interest’ (BILD).

“The Premier League appeals to me, it has always been like that. I always had the feeling that my style of play would suit England well,” Tah told Goal.

“The physicality of the league and the need to think quickly are qualities that suit my game. Opinions differ as to which league is the best in the world – for me it’s the Premier League.”

It is no secret that Shkodran Mustafi wants to leave Arsenal for Germany in the New Year, as reported by Sport1, and the Gunners could perhaps offer the 2014 World Cup winner in exchange for Tah when the winter window opens in three weeks.

“It may sound strange because I haven’t played that often lately, but I’m convinced that I can reach the top level in football,” Tah added.

“I’ve made a step forward, both on a sporting level and personally, but I don’t know where I’ll end up in the end.

“I have to be convinced that a transfer will help me. It depends on whether the club has their own philosophy or makes their philosophy dependent on the coach.”

West Ham were linked over the summer too but, according to the Sun, the Hammers board were unwilling to meet Leverkusen’s £30 million price-tag.
