‘Apparently’: Journalist makes Harry Kane coaching claim that should have Spurs fans excited

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Harry Kane’s free-kick goal in Tottenham’s pre-season friendly this week.

Spurs faced off against the K-League XI on Wednesday, and during the game Kane managed to end an eight-year free-kick drought.

Indeed, before that goal, Kane hadn’t scored a free-kick since 2014, but he finally broke his duck this week, and according to Gold, this set-piece came straight from the mind of Tottenham’s new specialist coach, Gianni Vio.

Gold spoke about Kane’s free-kick, claiming that Vio came up with the routine that finally saw the England captain find the back of the net.

“Funnily enough, from the free-kick a man that maybe we thought ‘oh no, we don’t want him to take it’, Harry Kane, he buried it into the bottom corner, and do you know what? Apparently it was one of Gianni Vio’s creations. Actually, when you looked at the set-pieces in that game they were different, there was a lot of name calling, a lot of movement, getting into positions, it was very organised,” Gold said.

Exciting

This was Tottenham’s first game after hiring Vio as their set-piece coach and he’s already managed to get Kane firing from a free-kick.

Bear in mind that Kane hadn’t scored from a free-kick in eight years, and you can see just how remarkable that is.

Now, we’re not saying that Vio is a miracle worker and that he will turn Kane into the next David Beckham, but this is certainly an exciting bit of insight.

For far too long, Tottenham have struggled to make anything of their set-pieces, especially from direct free-kicks, but it seems as though that may change going forward now that Vio is in place.
