Rangers new boy Bruno Alves was in action for Portugal against Chile on Wednesday night.
Portugal’s hopes of winning the Confederations Cup came to an end on Wednesday evening with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Chile in Kazan.
Portugal had picked up seven points in the group stage to book their place in the semi-finals, but they couldn’t reach the final and replicate last summer’s Euro 2016 victory.
After 120 goalless minutes at the Kazan Arena, the game went to penalties – and Portugal endured a nightmare against Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who has been much-maligned at Manchester City.

Ricardo Quaresma, Joao Moutinho and Nani all failed to find the net, and with Arturo Vidal, Charles Aranguiz and Alexis Sanchez scoring their spot kicks, Chile went through to the final with a simple 3-0 win on penalties.
The game may not have gone to plan for Portugal and manager Fernando Santos, but it did give Rangers fans a chance to see new signing Bruno Alves in action.
The veteran defender, who joined Rangers from Cagliari last month, started for the third time in the competition, and has ended the tournament without conceding a single goal whilst on the pitch.
Alves, 35, impressed against Chile, and his performance certainly caught the attention of Rangers fans, who took to Twitter to praise their new centre back for his performance.
Portugal’s Bruno Alves
Some Gers fans are still in disbelief that the former Porto, Zenit St. Petersburg and Fenerbahce man is a Rangers player, suggesting that he had Arsenal superstar Sanchez in his pocket throughout Wednesday’s match.
Others joked at rival fans and pundits who have claimed that Alves may be ‘past it’ as he approaches 36, with Rangers fans simply excited to see the defender make his Gers debut having again impressed on the international stage on Wednesday.
