Tony Cascarino was critical of Gareth Bale on talkSPORT and how he hasn’t shown ‘any desire’ since his return to Tottenham.
Leading up to Tottenham’s showdown with Manchester City last night, Jose Mourinho shared that Bale’s Instagram post prior to their FA Cup thriller in midweek was a ‘contradiction’ with reality, as he told BBC Sport.
Whilst the Spurs forward came off the bench during his side’s defeat to the leaders, he was left out of that FA Cup clash against Everton.
Nonetheless, former Republic of Ireland striker Cascarino was very critical of Bale’s season so far and claimed that he’s not even sprinting now.
“No, I don’t [think Mourinho is throwing Bale under the bus],” said Cascarino. “I think he has semi-protected him.
“I think Jose is absolutely 100% right in what he doing with Bale. I don’t think since Gareth Bale has turned up at Spurs has he actually shown any desire or heart to really try and grab a shirt in that team.
“I watched the games and I have watched him jog. Everyone says that he has lost his pace. I have not even seen him try to sprint. There is an effort that he has to put in.
“I think Jose has been so disappointed in the reaction that he has got from Bale that I think he probably doesn’t know where to turn or how to handle him, other than not play him.”

It seems as though Bale’s career at Tottenham is heading one way and that’s back to Real Madrid.
If he does end up returning to Spain, they aren’t exactly going to welcome him back with open arms because they didn’t even assign him with a squad number just before he left.
But there is still a large number of games remaining for Tottenham until the end of the campaign, including a League Cup final, and it still provides Bale with a chance to whip up the magic he can conjure in finals and help deliver a trophy for the club.
