Anwar El Ghazi should follow Yannick Bolasie out of the door at Aston Villa

Anwar El Ghazi is on a season-long loan at Aston Villa from Ligue 1 side Lille.

If Aston Villa supporters look into the distance then they can see their promotion hopes fading away as their inconsistent season worsens by the week.

Since the January transfer window has opened, Dean Smith has made a number of bold decisions, including recalling youngster Andre Green from his season-long loan spell at Portsmouth.

Added with that, the club confirmed on their official Twitter account on Tuesday that Everton loanee Yannick Bolasie has returned to his parent club earlier than expected.

All of this should be seen as a positive for Villa because they need to build for next season and the likelihood that they will be spending another year in the second tier of English football.

That is why Villa should cancel Anwar El Ghazi’s season-long loan because the Midlands outfit are better off producing one of their own rather than trying to build an inconsistent player that will not be here in the summer.

As reported by Sky Sports, the 23-year-old arrived from Ligue 1 side Lille in the summer after he was made surplus to requirements by the French club.

During his time at Villa, El Ghazi has, for most of the time, been a magician that has left his cards at home because he has struggled to cement a regular place in the starting XI.

The Holland international has scored four goals and supplied two assists for Smith’s side, with his standout performance coming away at West Brom in December when he bagged a brace.

But his inability to effect a game for long periods, press from the front and show any understanding on how to defend from the flanks is proving to be a problem.

Villa need to think long-term rather than short-term and look at players that can help them build a platform for promotion, not for this season, but the next.

Unfortunately, El Ghazi doesn’t fit that bill and he should follow Bolasie out of the Villa Park door and with it, they should use the finances from his departure to bring in a permanent addition that would be more beneficial to the club.
