Argentina have reached their sixth World Cup final, and to say that some fans are feeling a bit nervous ahead of Sunday’s game would be something of an understatement.
The South American nation are absolutely desperate to become World Champions for the third time.
Inevitably, a stage this big comes with a serious level of superstition, and Argentine supporters are taking no chances ahead of Lionel Messi’s final World Cup match.
Indeed, you may have noticed that fans of Lionel Scaloni’s side have been using one phrase online to try to give their team a bit of luck ahead of the final, but what does Anulo mufa mean?

Anulo mufa meaning
Argentina fans have been using the phrase ‘Anulo mufa’ on various social media platforms ahead of the final.
This phrase is used in Argentina to cancel or annul a curse or a jynx that has been put onto a person or a team, and with so many making predictions and observations about the team’s chances in the final, Argentine’s have been trying to make sure that their team go into the final without fate being tempted.
Mufa translates to ‘jynx’ or ‘bad luck’, while the word ‘anulo’ has similar roots to the word annul in English meaning to cancel or rescind.
The phrase is largely being used around Lionel Messi as fans and pundits alike await one final World Cup masterclass from arguably the greatest player of all-time.
However, to say that the stars are aligned for Messi to put on a show during his final World Cup match while breaking Lothar Matthaus’ appearance record with a Golden Boot on the line could, most certainly, backfire, so Argentina fans are trying to reverse as much of that potential bad luck as possible.
Of course, winning a World Cup is about more than luck or jinxes, but Argentina fans are taking no chances here.
