Antwerp boss Ivan Leko has told UEFA.com that his side should have beaten Tottenham Hotspur by more goals yesterday.

Tottenham went into the game in Belgium as heavy favourites to win, but they put in a lacklustre display and were beaten 1-0.

Antwerp were well worth their victory, and Leko feels that his side could have won by an even clearer margin.

“I can’t be anything but happy with what I saw from my team tonight. This was maybe the best performance of this season. It should have been 2-0 or 3-0 tonight,” he said.

The comments highlight just how poor a performance Tottenham put in.

In terms of budgets and quality Antwerp should really have been no match for Spurs, but they outplayed Jose Mourinho’s side by a fair margin last night.

Dieumerci Mbokani was guilty of missing a huge opportunity for the hosts, while Tottenham failed to create any really significant chances, even after they put the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son on to the pitch.

Leko’s comments will add further embarrassment about the result for Tottenham, with Mourinho clearly fuming at full-time.

Spurs are next in action against Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend, when a much improved display will be needed.
