Everton U23s attacker Antony Evans has hailed the team spirit of his side following the 2-1 victory away to Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

Although Tottenham took the lead through Jack Roles, it was Everton who claimed all three points as Evans hit a brace.

Evans felt that the entire Everton team deserved credit for the commitment that they showed.

Evans told the club’s official website: “That’s what we have about us, that team spirit, even though we are young and some of the lads are new to the squad.

“We all buy into the same philosophy and it showed again against Spurs.

“We all have character, a lot of us are from the city of Liverpool and we have a great team ethic.

“We were probing them without getting anywhere, then had a goal ruled out for offside. Again we probed but still couldn’t get the goal we wanted.”

Evans, who can play as an attacking midfielder or on either flank, has produced some impressive performances for Everton at U23 level this season and is an encouraging prospect.

The 19-year-old will hope to make the breakthrough into the first-team squad at some stage but he may first have to head out on loan again in order to build upon the experience that he gained during a temporary spell with Morecambe last season.

Everton have a talented crop of youngsters in their U23 setup and the important step now will be for manager Sam Allardyce to start incorporating some of these players into his first-team plans.

Doing so will be difficult, however, especially with the club battling to avoid relegation, and it may well be the case that Allardyce focuses mainly on senior players between now and the end of the campaign before perhaps giving some youngsters opportunities next season.
