Antonio Sanabria decided to sign with Real Betis ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.
If Tottenham had it their way, Antonio Sanabria would have signed for the club in the summer of 2016.
Spanish newspaper Sport reported that Sanabria turned down an approach from Spurs to leave Roma for Real Betis instead.
Sanabria would have become a third choice forward at Spurs behind Harry Kane and then Vincent Janssen, who also signed last summer.
His decision has helped him play first team football, but his debut season in Spain was a difficult one.
He scored only three goals in 22 games and struggled to win over supporters.
This season everything has changed for Sanabria.
He is playing a more prominent role and is thriving up front. He has scored four goals in six games, all of which have come in his last three matches.
These included a dramatic winner at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid, and he is averaging a goal every 78 minutes.
If he signed for Tottenham, the Paraguayan would likely still be warming the bench, or worse, playing with the under-23s.
His decision to go and play first team football has been vindicated and the former Barcelona prospect is likely to earn himself a big move in the future.
If that does happen to be with Tottenham, then his chances of competing with Harry Kane will look a lot better with this experience behind him.
