Everton want to sign a striker capable of leading their attack… and Antonio Sanabria could become one of the world’s best.
Everton managed to sign players in almost every position this summer, except striker where they desperately needed one.
So adding a new forward is essential in January, and the Toffees will be filtering through scouting reports attempting to work out who they should prioritise.
Search no more… the player they should be targeting as a top priority is Paraguayan sensation Antonio Sanabria.
Sanabria is just 21 but he has already led a storied career. Marked out as one of the world’s brightest players as a teenager, he is now converting his potential into production.
The South American began his career in Barcelona’s youth academy and starred for them in the UEFA Youth League, attracting interest from Arsenal.
He snubbed the Gunners and signed with Roma, while in between becoming Paraguay’s youngest ever international.
Quitting Barcelona was a brave move, and Sanabria struggled in Italy, impressing on loan back in Spain with Sporting Gijon where he scored 11 goals.
Almost a Tottenham player
Sanabria however decided against a move to North London, and signed with Real Betis instead.
His move has been justified, as instead of being stuck as a second or third choice, he has become the main man for Los Verdiblancos.
This season everything has clicked into gear for him, and he has scored prolificly, netting seven goals, including a strike against Real Madrid.
This comes as a rate of one ever 83 minutes this season – exactly the same ratio as Lionel Messi.
Sanabria is just 21, and is built to cope with the physical nature of Premier League football.
Everton would be signing a player who has the opportunity to contribute now, and grow into a superstar along with their under-20 World Cup winners.
With the promise of being Everton’s lead striker, the Toffees could succeed in persuading him where Tottenham failed.
Bringing him in will be a big statement, as if he keeps up his form for Betis, Europe’s big guns will make their move.
