Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte could reportedly miss out on Chelsea central defender Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid.

That’s the latest from well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

Romano has reported that Spanish and European giants Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with the Germany international central defender.

Rudiger will become a free agent at the end of the season when his current contract with Chelsea runs out.

Sport reported this month that Tottenham boss Conte wants to sign Rudiger and will meet with the 29-year-old in a last-ditch attempt to convince him to move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.

We covered the report here on HITC Sport.

Real Madrid over Tottenham for Antonio Rudiger

In our opinion, Rudiger moving to Real Madrid and not Tottenham in the summer transfer window would not surprise us at all.

Yes, Spurs are a big club, but Madrid are arguably the biggest club in the world who could win the La Liga and the Champions League this season.

Swapping Chelsea for Madrid would be a step-up for Rudiger, and we can understand why Los Blancos would be more appealing to him than Tottenham.
