According to CalcioMercato, Arsenal are now interested in signing Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan.

This would be a brilliant move for the Gunners. After all, Martinez has been described as a ‘spectacular’ striker by Lionel Messi in the past, but aside from his obvious talents, this would also be a chance for Arsenal to get one over Spurs.

Indeed, Tottenham have long been credited with an interest in the Argentine striker, with Eurosport recently reporting that Spurs haven’t given up on the idea of signing Martinez after a failed summer move.

Understandably, speculation has ramped up after the arrival of Antonio Conte in north London as Martinez was one of his most important players at Inter.

Indeed, the Italian was a big fan of Martinez, and it’s not hard to understand why. The number nine netted 40 goals in 84 games for Inter under Conte’s tutelage, so it’s not all that shocking to hear that he’s keen on bringing him to Spurs.

However, Arsenal are now in the race for Martinez, and with the Gunners seemingly able to offer him a much more viable route to being a starting striker after the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they may well be favourites in this transfer race.

Whether or not Martinez joins Arsenal remains to be seen, but if he does, Antonio Conte will surely be seething at the idea of his biggest rivals signing one of his favourite players.

This certainly seems to be a situation worth keeping an eye on, and if this transfer does come to fruition, the north London derby will be that much spicier.
