The form of Son Heung-min at Tottenham was a concern during the early stages of the season but Antonio Conte has told Friday’s press conference – as per Football London – he was not worried, saying Son had been “unlucky”.
Son, 30, netted his fourth and fifth goals for Tottenham this term on Wednesday. Having scored a hat-trick against Leicester – and then goals against Costa Rica and Cameroon during the break – Son got a brace against Frankfurt.
The first, a neat finish after being played through on goal by Harry Kane. But the second was stunning, volleying home a chipped cross from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with his left foot. Spurs made it two wins from two.
Ahead of Saturday evening’s game, Son is expected to start with Dejan Kulusevski ruled out. Conte was asked about Son’s improving form. He says that he was not really worried – even saying the £22m man has been unlucky.
“I wasn’t really worried about Sonny or if last season Harry didn’t score goals. We are talking about two important players for us. They work very well. You can have a period where you don’t score and you are a little bit unlucky.”

Ultimately, form is temporary and class is permanent. There is a reason why Son finished joint first in the Premier League goalscoring rankings with Mo Salah last season. He is a top-class attacker, one of the best in the division.
Michael Owen said in the week that of all the Tottenham players, if he had to sign one it would be Son – even, over Kane. You would be foolish not to back Son from scoring on Saturday evening against Frank Lampard’s Everton.
Hopefully for Tottenham, his early-season form for Spurs will be over, and his season has started – as Conte suggests. Seamus Coleman will have to be at his best to stop the ex-Bayer Leverkusen winger.
