Antonio Conte has told Friday’s press conference – as per Football London – that he has spoken to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. He said Levy has underlined the need for the Italian, and his commitment is more than ever.
It will come as a relief to Tottenham fans, players and the club itself – after Conte’s comments following Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Burnley. Off the back of a win over Manchester City, Spurs failed to go again – losing at Turf Moor.
Conte stated that he would have to speak to the club and to Levy to discuss his future. In the heat of the moment, Conte suggested he was considering resignation at Tottenham. But now, he has reassured fans after Levy talks.
Conte told his press conference that the two had held talks since his comments after losing to Burnley. He says that after those talks, in which Levy has underlined the Italian’s importance – he is now more committed.
“Yes I spoke to Daniel Levy. Our chairman knows very well that I’m here to help the club in every moment. That’s the reality. He knows we’re working hard. He has great consideration about our job and the job of my staff.
“I repeat I want to help the club with every aspect. He shows me great consideration every day and for this reason I’m committed for this club much more because I know the consideration for me is very high.”
Conte on Levy talks: Tottenham boss seems to relent from comments
Amid his earlier comments, the new claims from Conte suggest that his future remains firmly at Tottenham. Conte is the best thing that has happened to Tottenham since reaching for the Champions League final.
Keeping him, and indeed, keeping him happy at Tottenham is crucial to the growth of the club. The Italian is a brilliant manager, one of the best in the world and the recent form suggests Spurs’ issues are down to the players.
With Levy underlining his important, Conte will now look to improve Tottenham – and not jump after a bad run of results. A win over Leeds United on Saturday will certainly be a good start.
