ESPN journalist Mark Ogden has claimed that Julian Nagelsmann is a ‘better bet’ for Chelsea than Tottenham Hotspur who recently sacked Antonio Conte as their manager.

To nobody’s surprise, Tottenham announced Antonio Conte’s exit on Sunday evening following his wild outburst after his side’s 3-3 draw at Southampton last week – the club posted on their official website that Cristian Stellini will act as head coach until the end of the season.

Ever since that rant went viral, names, left, right and centre have been tipped to replace the Italian, including the recently-sacked Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann who is dubbed as being ‘perfect’ for the Tottenham managerial role.

Other than at Arsenal, Fulham and Brentford, the rest of the Premier League teams in London have either sacked their manager, or could do so again, or fans are calling for it, in the case of David Moyes at West Ham.

Over at Stamford Bridge, Graham Potter’s Chelsea are sitting tenth in the Premier League table and there is every chance that they miss out on Europe altogether, with the Champions League perhaps being the Englishman’s saviour.

Journalist Mark Odgen thinks Potter has to be ‘careful’ in the Chelsea hot seat, as he responded to the possibility of Nagelsmann heading to West London and not north London, as he told ESPN.

“Let’s us see where they (Chelsea) finish,” said Ogden. “Seventh, eight or tenth. And if they are out of the Champions League.

“They are saying all the right things that Potter is safe, but from Nagelsmann’s perspective, Chelsea would be a better bet than Tottenham because they have invested in the squad.

“It’s just a case of having a coach who can knit it all together and get some very good players playing together. I am not sure Potter has that ability.

“It’s like Bayern saying Nagelsmann is their guy until 11 pm and Chelsea saying the same with Potter. Clubs always back their manager until they don’t. When they don’t, then they are gone – that’s what Potter has to be aware of, if Chelsea don’t finish in the Champions League places, then he has to be careful.”

TOTTENHAM NEED TO ACT QUICKLY

Of course, Spurs will have to draw up a list of managers that can, not just pick the club up and its morale. But re-build the team going forward.

A man of Nagelsmann’s ilk, age and style of play, he fits that bill for Spurs down to a tee.

But if Daniel Levy wants to appoint the 35-year-old, then he has to be pretty quick because other clubs could come lurking, including a certain Real Madrid.
