Antonio Conte responds when asked if he could start new Tottenham duo against Wolves on Sunday

Antonio Conte has told Football London that it is a possibility that new signings Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski could start for Tottenham against Wolves. Spurs suffered defeat to Southampton last time out.

Conte has galvanised Tottenham and they remain in the hunt for a place in the top four. Joining Spurs as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement, the chance of a top-four finish looked all but out of the question come May.

But now, they remain a hot contender to finish fourth – with Chelsea also perhaps in their sights as Thomas Tuchel’s side continue to stutter. Defeat to Southampton on Wednesday was a blow, having led on 70 minutes.

Spurs now take on Wolves, who are long shots for a potential top-six finish. Bruno Lage is performing wonders with the Molineux outfit, making them incredibly hard to beat. They suffered a controversial 1-0 loss to Arsenal.

Conte was asked in Friday’s press conference if new signings Bentancur and Kulusevski – both of whom have made sub appearances against Brighton and Southampton – could start against Wolves. Conte responded.

“For sure this could be a possibility. We have another day of training to make our decision. They are working with the team and I prefer to wait until tomorrow to make the decision on the starting XI,” Conte said.

But it should be Bentancur, and not Kulusevski. While Spurs did suffer defeat to Southampton – there were plenty of pleasing aspects about the way Spurs played, particularly with the ball and in the final third.

Son Heung-min looked back to his best, Harry Kane was just as good creatively and Bentancur was superb when he came off the bench. Defensively, Spurs looked a shambles without Eric Dier at the back.

Kulusevski was guilty of allowing Mo Elyounoussi to run past him and while a player with raw talent, he will need time to mould into a Conte player. Bentancur is ready to go – he should start on Sunday.
