Antonio Conte responded in his post-match Tottenham press conference – as per Football London – when asked about the Chelsea sacking of Thomas Tuchel. The duo were embroiled in numerous spats at Stamford Bridge this season.
Tottenham maintained their unbeaten start to the 2022-23 campaign with a 2-0 win over Marseille. Not a vintage Spurs performance, but they had to get the job done after Marseille went down to 10 men. Richarlison nabbed a late brace.
Five wins, two draws and three clean sheets so far for Conte’s men. Across the Capital, it is not looking so good. Tuchel was sacked after a 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb. That is, having already been beaten by Leeds and Southampton in the league.
Tottenham nicked a late point off Chelsea in August – in a match that sparked mass controversy on the touchline. Conte and Tuchel were both fined, and Tuchel given a touchline ban, for holding onto Conte’s hand at full-time.

A strained relationship with new owner Todd Boehly, combined with results, saw Tuchel depart this week. Brighton’s Graham Potter is the heavy favourite. Conte was asked about Tuchel’s sacking, but did not give much away.
“Honestly I don’t want to be disrespectful. I think when another club takes a decision I think it is right to don’t take comment because you don’t know what happened,” Conte said. When asked about Chelsea sacking Tuchel.

It was always going to be a brief answer, keeping his cards close to his chest. Given the altercations between the duo in West London a month ago, Conte was never going to give his true opinion on the matter of Tuchel losing his job.
But what is clear to all, is that Chelsea have been ruthless. Sacking a manager of Tuchel’s stature, calibre and experience, and that it is only seven games into a season is barbaric. Chelsea need to get his replacement very right.
