Antonio Conte has hinted during Friday’s press conference – as per Football London – that Bryan Gil could now remain at Tottenham, despite the midfielder being the subject of interest from both Valencia and Real Sociedad.
Gil, 21, registered 20 appearances for Tottenham following a move that cost Spurs £21.6million and Erik Lamela last summer. He failed to score, and only laid on one assist. He went to Valencia, where he impressed on loan.
Now back at Spurs, Gil was part of the squad that traveled to South Korea. An unused substitute on Saturday against Southampton, the versatile winger does have interest in his services with talks said to be ongoing.
Fabrizio Romano recently said that Valencia were in talks to bring him back on loan – a club managed by Gennaro Gattuso. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad are also keen. But Conte has now hinted that he could remain at Spurs.
“I’m very happy with our squad because compared to last season we improved, with Richy but we lost Bergwijn. Gil went on loan but now he’s in the squad of 20 players,” Conte said on Thursday, as per Football London.

So, is it the right move for Gil to remain at Tottenham? Ultimately, it probably isn’t. Gil is at a stage in his career where he needs regular game time and it seems impossible to see where that comes if he stays at Spurs.
Conte has brought in Richarlison up top. Lucas Moura, Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane are the other options. Ivan Perisic could also play in the final third. So where does Gil fit in?
If Spurs were in the Conference League, or even the Europa League, he might get a chance. But now in the Champions League, Conte will prefer to play his best side. So surely, Gil needs to go on loan this summer.
