Antonio Conte is Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager.
It took Spurs months to replace Jose Mourinho after sacking him back in April, but they’ve managed to replace Nuno Espirito Santo in just over 48 hours.
Fabio Paratici has got his man. Conte was one of Spurs’ biggest targets in the summer, but, despite strong links, a move to north London never came to fruition for the Italian.
Conte has now explained to the club’s official website why he didn’t end up at Spurs after Mourinho’s departure.
What’s been said?
Conte shared why he didn’t join Spurs in the summer.
“Last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn’t yet the right time to return to coaching,” Conte said.

Got their man
Tottenham were clearly keen on Conte in the summer, but as the Italian says, the wounds of leaving Inter were too fresh for him to consider a new job at the time.
However, a few months down the line, he’s been convinced to come to north London and it seems as though he’s keen to banish the bad memories of his final weeks at Inter.
Unfortunately, appointing Nuno Espirito Santo has left Spurs with something of a mountain to climb in the Premier League, but if any manager has what it takes to overcome a big task, it’s Conte.
