Antonio Conte has told Friday’s press conference – as per Football London – that Tottenham have the chance to pip Arsenal and Manchester United to fourth, underlying the importance of getting Champions League football.

Tottenham’s five wins in seven Premier League games has pushed Spurs back into contention for the top four. Spurs are three points behind Arsenal, but the Gunners also have a game in hand before the end of the season.

With Spurs having nine games left to play, it still looks pretty bleak. But Arsenal have to go to Tottenham and their game in hand is against Chelsea. So, Spurs do have a chance and can strengthen it by beating Newcastle.

The North Londoners play host to Newcastle on Sunday evening, a Toon side that have lost twice on the bounce to Chelsea and Everton. Conte discussed his side’s chances of finishing in the Champions League places.

“If you had asked me [before] about our possiblity to reach a place in the Champions League, I would say very, very difficult. Now I think we have to try to fight until the end to have the possibility to reach this target.

“The Champions League next season is important for me, important for the players and the fans. To play in the CL is completely different to the Europa League and Conference League. You can plan for important things.”

Conte on top four: Tottenham have a real chance of leapfrogging Arsenal

As stated, looking at the table, it is still bleak in terms of Tottenham’s chances. With Arsenal in the form they are in, showing consistency, they are on pole to get fourth. But Spurs have a very big chance of pipping them.

Arsenal’s game in hand is against Chelsea and if Spurs beat the Gunners at home, then it is a real showdown. Manchester United still have a solid chance, only one point behind Spurs. But there are issues at Old Trafford.

Spurs can do it, and they do seem to have rid themselves of their recent inconsistency. But the only way Tottenham will reach the top four, is if Harry Kane continues to produce the form he is currently producing.
