Antonio Conte has told Friday’s press conference – as per Football London – that Newcastle United have the potential to win trophies in the near future, when asked about the Toon ahead of Sunday’s clash against his Tottenham side.
The two sides come into the game in solid form. Tottenham suffered only their second league defeat of the season on Wednesday, as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Newcastle are on fire at the moment.
Miguel Almiron’s fifth goal of the season was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Newcastle. The Toon’s fourth win of the season was enough to propel Newcastle into sixth place in the Premier League table. A close game on Sunday, then.
Ahead of Sunday’s showdown between the two sides, Tottenham boss Conte was asked for his thoughts on Newcastle. He responded by saying that he believes there will be trophies coming their way sooner rather than later.
“You have to consider Newcastle for the present and for the future as a danger, as a dangerous team for the first position, for the Champions League position, for the fight to win trophies,” Conte said.
“Newcastle need time but they have potential to become one of the best teams in England. Many clubs have to pay great attention. I see Newcastle becoming really dangerous for a place in the Champions League and to win trophies.”

Without a doubt, Conte is right. The Toon will continue to spend, and have bought well. With Dan Ashworth, who is highly rated in his position, Newcastle will only continue to grow. Eddie Howe can not go without praise, either.
It is all well and good having money, but you have to have the manager in place that is going to get the best out of the players. Those that have remained, and those that have come in. As things stand, Howe is certainly doing that.
