Antonio Conte has told his post-match press conference – as per Football London – that new Tottenham signing Ivan Perisic could join group training on Thursday, as he continues to overcome a calf injury sustained at Inter Milan.

Perisic, 33, was the first of five summer signings at Tottenham – joining the club on a free transfer from Inter. But he joins with a calf problem picked up in his final game for the Nerrazzuri. He was not a part of Wednesday’s side.

A brace from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, an Eric Dier howitzer and an own goal saw Spurs beat a K-League XI 6-3 in Seoul on Wednesday afternoon. Perisic was not even on the bench, as he continues to train alone.

Asked about the availability of his squad ahead of a friendly against Sevilla this weekend, Conte gave an update on Perisic. He said he is very happy with the Croatian’s recovery, and expects him to be fully fit when returning to London.

“Perisic is working very well. I think tomorrow we could have part of the training session with us. We are very satisfied because his recovery is going very fast and back in London he will be able to join in more,” Conte said.

Conte: Perisic could join Tottenham training on Thursday

It will come as a welcome boost to Tottenham. The signing of Perisic was a big one, even if he is 33. But to turn up injured and not get a pre-season under Conte will have worried both the club, and their fans.

However, to hear Conte speak positively about his recovery is good. Perisic has been seen in Korea working by himself and he might even get game time against Sevilla if he shows no signs of reaction in group training this week.
