The Times have reported that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte could not convince Daniel James to join from Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
Antonio Conte wanted Leeds-owned Daniel James at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham wanted to sign former Manchester United winger James from Premier League rivals Leeds United in the summer transfer window, according to a report in The Times last month.
However, it was Fulham who secured the services of the 24-year-old Wales international winger – who “is quick, direct and works hard”, according to comments from Leeds Director of Football Victor Orta on the club’s official website in August 2021 – on a loan deal.
The Times have now reported that Conte ‘could not persuade Dan James to join from Leeds United’ last month.

Strange decision?
Tottenham Hotspur are a bigger and more ambitious club than Fulham who are challenging for the Premier League top four and also playing in the UEFA Champions League this season.
So, it does appear to be a strange decision from James to choose Fulham over Tottenham.
Maybe the winger, who cost Leeds £25 million when they signed him from Manchester United in 2021 (BBC Sport), felt that he would get more playing time at Fulham than at Spurs.
