If Tottenham previously struggled to pick a first team right-back, that is no longer a problem for Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool last weekend was made all the more impressive by noting which players were not in the team.
Spurs now have incredible strength in depth all over the pitch – and that includes at right-back.
Back in August, the right side of the defence was a real problem for Mauricio Pochettino and his side, having sold both DeAndre Yedlin and Kyle Walker in the previous 12 months.
However, since then, Kyle Walker-Peters has made an impressive bow, Kieran Trippier has recovered and impressed, while Serge Aurier has been signed.
Those three would be enough for most sides, but Tottenham can also call on Anton Walkes, who is currently on loan at Atlanta United in MLS.
The 20-year-old headed across the Atlantic shortly after making his Spurs debut in the League Cup and he has established himself as the starting right-back at a team that made the play-offs in their debut season.
For both Atlanta and Walkes, that is no mean feat.
It is very unlikely that he will be a first team player at Tottenham come the end of the MLS season this winter, but that only serves to show how the squad has improved in his time away.
Back in August, Walkes would have been in with a chance of starting the Premier League season opener at Newcastle United on the back of his performances in the MLS. This is another sign of progress.
