Sunderland are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table.

Anton Ferdinand has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 20th December, that he believes Sunderland will stay up in the Premier League this season.

Sunderland are once again embroiled in a relegation battle, with David Moyes’ side currently stationed in 18th place in the top flight standings.

However, Ferdinand believes that Sunderland will once again successfully fight against the drop and remain a top flight club.

“Yeah [I think they’ll stay up], I have faith in the manager and the players,” Ferdinand, who played for Sunderland in the early stages of his playing career, said. “When you have someone like Defoe, who can score goals from nothing, there is no reason why they won’t stay up.”

Sunderland began the campaign in awful fashion, and failed to win any of their first 10 Premier League matches.

The Black Cats have been much improved of late, though, and optimism is flooding back to the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland manager David Moyes

Sunderland have won four of their last seven fixtures, with their latest victory coming against Watford last weekend.

Moyes’ men are next in action on Boxing Day, when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
