Chelsea’s rich history of world-class goalscorers has played a major role in the club’s success.

Players like Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, and Diego Costa helped lead the team to trophies during their time at Stamford Bridge.

That kind of attacking quality is exactly what Enzo Maresca could use now, especially after Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Atalanta in the Champions League.

Over in Madrid, Antoine Griezmann certainly knows how to find the net too, and he holds one former Chelsea player in particularly high regard.

Griezmann was recently asked to name the best finisher of all time by ESPN FC, and the Frenchman decided to go with Drogba.

Drogba is the kind of player Chelsea could do with today. Although he was able to score in Tuesday night’s defeat to Atalanta, Joao Pedro has struggled for goals overall of late.

Chelsea have also been dealing with injuries up front, including Liam Delap, which has left Maresca short on options in attack.

Another fan of Drogba is Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke. The 28-year-old, who came through Chelsea’s academy system, often speaks about how seeing Drogba around the training ground left a lasting impression on him as a young player.

Chelsea have had their share of great finishers over the years. Between Drogba, Lampard and Costa, it’s hard to argue otherwise.

Didier Drogba’s goal tally at Chelsea

While not everyone will agree with Griezmann’s assessment, there’s no denying that Drogba ranks among the best finishers in Chelsea history—and he has the stats to prove it.

Over two stints with the club, he found the net 164 times in 381 appearances. In league play alone, he scored 104 goals over 254 matches.

Drogba’s tally sets a high bar. It would be a real surprise if any of the current crop of forwards managed to hit those numbers during their time at Stamford Bridge.
