Anthony Patterson is in ‘brilliant’ form at Sunderland amid reports linking Premier League duo Wolves and Leicester City with a £10 million summer swoop, speaking via Sunderland Nation.

Six years ago, the Black Cats sold Jordan Pickford to Everton for a cool £30 million.

Continue in the same vein and Patterson, born just 12 miles away from England’s number one in North Shields, will be joining his fellow Sunderland graduate in the Premier League. Who knows, he might not even have to move houses to play top-flight football.

Tuesday’s 3-0 win away at QPR lifted Mowbray’s side up to fifth in the table; a play-off spot within their grasp. Jack Clarke was the headline maker in West Londo. But it was Patterson who laid the platform with an early penalty save.

“Listen, I don’t want to tell the world how brilliant Patterson is,” Mowbray smiles, arguing the similarities between Pickford and the 22-year-old end at their playing position and their north east roots.

“This kid is a different type of goalie. Jordan Pickford; he’s lively, he’s got a lot to say. He’s a sharp, quick and at times angry with his defenders type of goalie.

“Patterson is the most quiet, sobering lad you would ever want to meet. He’s so calm about everything and yet he keeps the ball out of the net.”

Nathan Patterson attracting Premier League interest at Sunderland

According to The Sun, Wolves and Leicester are keen on Patterson. A fee of £10 million has been mooted, though Sunderland may ask for a higher fee given that their academy graduate is under contract until the summer of 2026.

“He dominates his box. He makes crucial saves. He’s just a nice kid, a nice big, 6f 4ins kid who hardly talks but he is brilliant at what he does,” Mowbray adds.

“We all love him. How far can he go? The phone dictates that; if people in the Premier League are watching him or England are watching him, or whatever it would be. We’ll wait and see.

“At this moment, we’re just delighted he’s with us. Delighted he’s enjoying his football and playing well.”
