Anthony Joshua has made his first public statement since the car accident that killed two of his friends.

News broke last week that former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua had been involved in a serious crash.

Reports soon confirmed that two people lost their lives in the incident, later identified as Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, both close friends of Joshua.

He was taken to a hospital in Nigeria for precautionary checks but was later released without any significant injuries.

Before the accident, Joshua had recently returned to the ring, defeating Jake Paul with a sixth-round knockout. It was Paul’s first loss as a professional boxer.

In their first event of 2025, Most Valuable Promotions paid tribute to Ayodele and Ghami by adding their names to the ring canvas.

Joshua has since broken his silence with a message on social media, where he posted: “My Brothers Keeper.”

This came after reports that just before the collision, Joshua had moved from the passenger seat to the backseat of the vehicle.

Eddie Hearn shares message after car crash

Joshua has been working with Eddie Hearn since turning professional, and the Matchroom Boxing boss has been a regular presence throughout his career.

Following news of the crash, Hearn posted a message to Joshua’s friends on social media.

“Rest in peace Latz and Sina. Your energy and loyalty among so many other great qualities will be deeply missed. Praying for strength and guidance for all their family, friends and of course AJ during this very difficult time.”
