Everton manager Rafael Benitez told the club not to send Anthony Gordon out on loan in the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

It has been reported this morning that attacking midfielder Gordon had ‘widespread interest’ in him.

Clubs wanted to secure the 20-year-old attacking midfielder on loan.

However, according to the report, Benitez, who was appointed the Everton manager in the summer as a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, told the Toffees to rebuff loan offers for Gordon.

First-team place

The report in The Athletic indicates that Benitez rates Gordon highly.

The Toffees turning down loan offers for the 20-year-old suggests that he will be part of the Everton senior squad this season and could feature prominently in the team.

The youngster has played 15 times in the Premier League for Everton so far in his career.

Now, of course, Gordon will have to work hard to get into the team, but there is a very good chance that he will get a decent amount of playing time.

Everton are doing well at the moment, and if the Merseyside club continue to get positive results, then Benitez will use Gordon more often.

The youngster has played one minute in the Premier League so far this season.
