Jacob Ramsey has put pen to paper on a new contract at Aston Villa until the summer of 2027 after a brilliant campaign, largely under Steven Gerrard. John Terry, and Anthony Gordon, are among those to respond.

Ramsey, 20, has clocked up 30 of his 59 senior Villa appearances this season and the influence of Gerrard is telling – with six Premier League goals coming the way of the Villa academy product. He has also got an assist.

The midfielder has started 20 of Gerrard’s 21 Premier League matches in charge, forming a partnership with the likes of John McGinn and Douglas Luiz, when the latter is fit. He has combined well with Philippe Coutinho.

More than deserving, then, of a new contract which will run until Ramsey is 26 – with his birthday next month. Gerrard will be hoping to eek out some of the goalscoring talent he had during his playing days, in Ramsey.

The youngster took to Instagram on Tuesday to underline his delight at putting pen to paper on a new deal at Villa Park – the club he has been associated with since joining the academy in 2007, aged only six.

Gordon, Terry react: Aston Villa smart to tie Ramsey down to deal

Not only does Ramsey deserve a new deal, but it sees Villa maximise his value should any of the Premier League’s big hitters come crawling. Right now, the best place for Ramsey is Villa Park as he continues to shine.

But should his performances continue to grow but Villa remain a mid-table, to bottom-half side, then his ambition is likely to grow further than Villa. However, keeping him until 2027 means Villa are under no pressure to sell.

Plenty responded to Ramsey’s Instagram, including ex-Villa player and coach Terry. Everton winger Gordon also responded to his post.
