Anthony Gordon admits confidence issues at Everton last season

Everton forward Anthony Gordon is regarded as one of the most exciting youngsters currently at Goodison Park.

Everton youngster Anthony Gordon has admitted to the Liverpool Echo that he had issues with his confidence last season.

Gordon was called into Everton’s first-team training on occasion last term, after impressing for their under-23 side.

The 18-year-old forward is regarded as one of the Toffees brightest up and coming prospects.

However, Gordon admits that when he was training alongside Everton’s senior stars it was a daunting prospect last term.

As a result Gordon decided to go away over the summer and train harder than ever, as he looked to improve his fitness levels.

And the youngster claims that he feels far more at home in Everton first-team training nowadays.

“Over the summer it was more my mentality that changed,” he revealed.

“I had time to think about what happened the season before and I thought to myself that I am ready to take it to the next level and be the best version of myself.

“I struggled with a lack of confidence last year but I’ve got that back through training and working hard because the fitness levels really give you confidence when you get the ball, so it was about committing to my craft and working hard over the summer.”

Gordon has continued to impress for Everton’s development sides this season, but Marco Silva is yet to reward him with a first-team chance.

Although many supporters at Goodison Park want to see Gordon included in their senior squads, Silva seems to still want some more convincing.

If Gordon did come into starting contention at Everton he would be in competition with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Moise Kean and Cenk Tosun for a spot in Silva’s line-up.
