It looks like Liverpool might be missing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a while.
The former Arsenal star signed for Liverpool in a £40 million deal three years ago but there’s been plenty of ups-and-downs for the midfielder.
The ups have been in the form of silverware, with Oxalde-Chamberlain winning the Premier League and Champions League under Jurgen Klopp, but the downsides have been related to his injury problems.
He didn’t play a minute in the European success of the 2018-19 campaign, having spent almost a year out injured due to a cruciate ligament injury.
The 27-year-old also picked up a few knocks last season, starting only 17 of the Reds’ 38 Premier League games, and it seems like he’s out again.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss the rest of the pre-season campaign ahead of the new season after picking up an unspecified injury in training.
Here’s how fans of the Merseyside club reacted on Twitter:
Liverpool are still heavily linked with a move for Thiago Alcantara but, despite refusing to pay his £27 million valuation yet, a serious injury to Oxlade-Chamberlain – who plays a similar midfield role – might force the Premier League champions to bite the bullet here.
