Luis Garcia has stated that Liverpool’s first summer transfer signing of Alexis Mac Allister is a ‘very good’ deal and he thinks ‘another one’ is arriving.

When the 2022/23 Premier League season drew to a close, which saw Liverpool miss out on Champions League football, the club didn’t waste any time in bringing Alexis Mac Allister through their doors from Brighton and Hove Albion for £35 million.

It was an outstanding piece of business by the Reds and Garcia thinks ‘another one at the back’ and ‘another one at the front’ is needed for next season, as he told ESPN.

The forward areas aren’t the issue for Jurgen Klopp, especially with Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo arriving during recent transfer windows.

It’s the middle of the mark that needs the most makeover and perhaps the defence, which declined heavily last season, especially on the road.

Just how many new faces come in will be interesting because, if you asked the fans, then they will say a fair few, but that isn’t the way Liverpool rocks the transfer boat, with former Anfield star Garcia sharing his thoughts.

“I think it’s a very good addition (Mac Allister),” said Garcia. “I could see another one arriving if it’s possible. I think Liverpool needs a good fresh-up for facing everything that is going to come.

“I think it’s very important for the club to understand that if you want to try to challenge for every single trophy, you have seen three or four important players have departed, then you need to bring the same standard and it’s very high. They left the standards very high.

“I think Mac Allister is a very good addition. But I think another one at the back and another up front, it could also be very important.”

A few more midfielders and perhaps another right-back?

One midfielder won’t be enough for Liverpool and, at least, another one is needed if they are to challenge the rampant Treble-winning machine that is Manchester City next season.

But could another right-back be in order? Yes, Trent Alexander-Arnold is a class above. But it was interesting that he was deployed as a number ten by England against Malta on Friday.

There are some calls for that to happen on the domestic stage, and rather than bringing in that extra midfielder, put TAA in the middle and sign a first-choice right-back, instead.
