Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has given an interesting update on Arsenal’s hunt for a midfielder, claiming that Emi Buendia is a name on the Gunners’ list, but by no means is he the only option Arsenal have lined up.
Reports emerged earlier this week that Arsenal were preparing a swap deal for the Argentine playmaker, but Romano says that nothing is advanced on that front as of yet, but he says Arsenal are looking at him and signing him is a possibility.
“Also, on the transfers, we always said that they wanted a quality midfielder, they were trying for Szoboszlai, and now another name we have to consider is Emiliano Buendia from Norwich is a possibility, nothing advanced yet,” Romano said.
“Because, first of all, for Arsenal it’s so important to sell players, now you’re going to hear many things about it just because top clubs need to sell players right now, and then immediately after they can sell new ones, and that’s why Buendia is waiting, he’s in the list, one of the names, one of the options, not the only one.”

This would certainly be an interesting signing for Arsenal, but it may be worth the Gunners exploring some of the other names on their list.
As Romano says, Dominik Szoboszlai was one of the Gunners’ first options, but they missed out on him, and signing a Championship player is something of a step down from chasing a player who has been putting in brilliant performances in the Champions League.
Buendia is certainly a talented player, and he would add a lot to Arsenal’s midfield if he were to join. However, the signing of a creative midfielder has the ability to catapult Arsenal to the next level, and as good as Buendia is, it’s hard to imagine him making that sort of impact at the Emirates.
Of course, Romano says the Gunners need to sell players before anything happens on that front, so this is one that may drag on for a number of weeks yet.
