Some Liverpool fans are singing the praises of their sporting director Michael Edwards for allowing Chelsea to sign Timo Werner.

The Reds spent most of last summer – and a lot of 2020 – in pursuit of Werner.

And when it was revealed that the 24-year-old was going to Chelsea instead of Liverpool, many fans of the Anfield club weren’t all that happy.

Edwards and Jurgen Klopp weren’t prepared to meet Leipzig’s £47.5 million asking price and the Premier League champions’ frugal approach was ruffling feathers, in a bad way.

We know that Liverpool had the money, because a similar amount was spent on bringing in Diogo Jota from Wolves.

And supporters of the Merseyside club are lavishing praise on this Edwards ‘masterclass’ in choosing Jota over Werner, who has one less Premier League goal than his Portuguese counterpart in 617 less minutes – the equivalent of nearly seven matches.

Werner drew a blank as Chelsea lost 2-1 to Wolves last night and here’s how his performance was perceived by Liverpool fans:

Let’s face it, Werner is going to get better for Chelsea but, by the same token, so is Jota.

This time next year, Liverpool will more than likely have been proven right in their decision to save the Werner money by punting for the former Wolves man.
