Alnwick was impressed with the way Rangers played against his St. Mirren team at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper was on the books of Rangers from 2017 until the summer of 2020 when he was released by the Gers, and he subsequently moved to St. Mirren.
Alnwick told Herald Scotland: “We looked at it and you think ‘can we catch them cold if they are not in their full flow?’ But they were unstoppable, it was wave after wave and we couldn’t get up the pitch.
“They caused us a lot of problems. Generally as a goalkeeper coming here you know you are going to be busy. It was down to me to make a few saves and I was hoping I could keep it at 1-0 for as long as possible and then we could maybe nick something.
“But they went up another level and kept pushing forward and got the crucial goals. It was tough for us but I can’t fault our lads.”
Comfortable win for Rangers
Rangers were expected to pick up maximum points against St. Mirren, and the Gers did just that with relative ease.
An own goal from Conor McCarthy midway through the first half saw Rangers go 1-0 up, and Alfredo Morelos scored twice in the second period.
The result means that the Gers have now won both of their league games this season.
