Celtic legend David Provan has praised Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson in The Scottish Sun.

Provan believes that Rangers teenager Patterson should start for Scotland at the European Championship this summer.

The Rangers academy graduate has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Ibrox and has been called up to the Scotland squad.

The Scotland Under-21 international right-back has actually not played for the senior side yet.

Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “And if it’s strange Patterson is in the national squad without having played in front of a proper crowd, it shouldn’t count against him. Chances are he’ll find another gear when crowds get back in.”

Patterson has been superb for Rangers.

The right-back got his chance due to injury to James Tavernier, and the teenager has made the most of it.

The youngster produced some brilliant performances in the Old Firm derbies against Celtic and showcased his potential.

As Provan says, Patterson could well take his game to another level when he has the backing of fans inside stadiums.

The right-back could flourish with the fans singing his name, and that can be only good for Rangers and Scotland.

The youngster made two starts and three substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership, and made three starts and one substitute appearance in the Europa League for Rangers this season.
