The Rangers-linked defender is reportedly close to joining Steven Gerrard’s ranks at Ibrox.

One £6 million transfer appears to have simultaneously cost Rangers one of their rumoured transfer targets but gained them another.
It was reported by HLN in Belgium earlier that Simon Deli was due to undergo a medical at Club Brugge, ahead of signing a multi-year contract with the Pro League runners-up – just a day after he emerged as a potential option for Rangers.
But no sooner had news of Rangers’ apparent £2.25m near-miss dropped, it was claimed by Aftonbladet in Sweden that another centre-back, Filip Helander, was heading to Ibrox in a deal worth around an additional £2m.
With Deli currently on Slavia Prague’s books, and Helander on Bologna’s, it is difficult to see how those particular players could be connected.

But they are indeed linked by the aforementioned £6m transfer, which took place at the weekend.
It saw another central defender, Stefano Denswil, leave Club Brugge to sign for – you’ve guessed it – Bologna.

That subsequently left Brugge a man light in the trio’s position, and Bologna a man heavy.
Without it, might it have been Deli, and not Helander, who was moving to Rangers this week?
Will Helander prove a better addition than Deli for Rangers?
