Harry Redknapp thinks Newcastle United are going to sign ‘another big couple of superstars’ on transfer deadline day, as he told talkSPORT.
The former Premier League manager was asked how the likes of Norwich City will be feeling about Newcastle’s spending this month.
Even on a good day, Norwich aren’t and never have been big spenders during the transfer window, and it’s been the case here once again.
But, for their relegation rivals, they have been the main event of the window, with their standout signing perhaps being Bruno Guimarães from Lyon.
With only hours left remaining before the transfer window slams shut, it still provides the Magpies with the chance to get more deals over the line, including the big one, Jesse Lingard.
Whatever happens, Redknapp thinks Newcastle’s relegation rivals just have to get on with their work rather than worry about what is going on at St James’ Park.
“You have got to concentrate on your own job,” said Redknapp. “You are thinking ‘oh god, they are signing good players’.
“When you see Trippier coming in and then the big boy Woodsy is going to improve them. Then they are signing another big couple of superstars to come in today.
“It does make you think that ‘it’s going to be more difficult now’, so it’s not a good situation.
“You are happy when it’s ‘oh, this deal has fallen through at Newcastle’. So, it’s going to be tough. It is going to be tight down there.”
When this window is done and dusted, then Newcastle can no longer turn to their big pockets to get them out of their current mess.
It’s all down to what the players do out on that pitch, as they have a crucial game against Everton coming up next week.
If Newcastle sign more players before the deadline, and get everything they want, then they may well have a whole host of new faces raring to go against Frank Lampard’s side.
From new boy Guimarães to possibly getting Lingard through the door, it is going to be some atmosphere at St James’ Park against the Toffees.
