Newcastle United are poised to announce the signing of Loris Karius on a free transfer.
Keith Downie reported on Friday that the Magpies were set to bring Karius to St James’s Park after his Liverpool contract expired earlier in the summer.
The German goalkeeper hadn’t played for Liverpool in a competitive outing since his horrific Champions League final performance four years ago.
But with Newcastle selling Martin Dubravka to Manchester United late in the transfer window, Eddie Howe needs some competition and cover for Nick Pope.
And according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, United could announce the deal today.

Loris Karius to Newcastle United
Fabrizio Romano tweeted out late on Thursday night that the 29-year-old would be signing a short-term deal with Newcastle and, to be honest, this venture makes sense.
With Pope as Eddie Howe’s number one, Karius isn’t going to be playing a whole lot of football.
And even if he is thrusted back into Premier League action, at least he has some experience.
However, confidence is such a massive thing for any footballer but particularly a goalkeeper and you wonder if he’ll ever truly recover from making those two errors in Liverpool’s Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.
