Leeds United Chief Executive Angus Kinnear has said on The Phil Hay Show on The Athletic that one of Harry Kane’s goals for Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road last weekend should have stood.

Tottenham suffered a 3-1 defeat to Leeds away from home at Elland Road in the Premier League last Saturday.

Kane played well in the game and could have actually had three goals to his name.

The England international striker had two goals ruled out for offside, and he was also denied by the frame of the Leeds goal.

One of the goals that the 27-year-old scored looked to be fine. Kane appeared onside, but VAR ruled that he was not.

Leeds Chief Executive Kinnear has said that although he was pleased that the goal was ruled out, he believes that in the spirit of the game, it should have stood.

Kinnear said on The Phil Hay Show on The Athletic: “I was delighted that it was offside. I saw the Harry Kane decision three or four times in slow motion with the lines being applied across it, and I still think he is onside, and certainly in the spirit of the game he is onside.”

Kane was unlucky not to have had at least one goal to his name against Leeds.

It is very generous of Kinnear to give his honest verdict on that controversial goal.

The Leeds chief executive could have easily been diplomatic in his response, but credit to him that he said that Kane’s goal should have stood.

However, on the balance of play, Leeds were the better side and deservedly picked up all three points against Spurs.
