Leeds United signed Adam Forshaw among others in the January transfer window.

The West Yorkshire outfit signed left-back Laurens De Bock, midfielder Adam Forshaw and striker Tyler Roberts from Club Brugge, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion respectively in the January transfer window.
While Forshaw cost £4.5 million in transfer fees, according to BBC Sport, the Whites had to pay the Baggies £2.5m for Roberts, as reported by The Express.
Leeds Managing Director Kinnear has explained why the club did not splash a lot of cash in the January transfer window.

Kinnear told Leeds’s official website: “The challenges of the winter market are well documented so our overarching strategy has, and will always be, to build our squad in the summer.
“However we were always prepared to address specific requirement and seize on what we believe to be exceptional opportunities.
“This process not only requires the tireless analysis of our scouting team, but also the careful monitoring of the market to identify where quality and value coincide.
“Whilst there is always a temptation to gamble on inflated quick fixes, all of our business is underpinned by sustainable financial management, to ensure today’s transfer policy does not damage the club in the long term.”

Good strategy?
Kinnear’s explanation makes sense. After all, January can be a tricky period to do transfer business, with players’ price inflated, and not too many good footballers are available anyway.
The best time to sign players is during the summer, and if Leeds are unable to get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season, then it is important that the club reinforce their squad in the summer of 2018 and spend some good money to get in the right kind of players.
