Leeds United’s Angus Kinnear has commented on the club’s summer transfer plans.

Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that the club expect an exciting transfer window – and hinted that Victor Orta will be staying at Elland Road.

The Whites are set to miss out on the Championship play-offs yet again as they lie 12 points adrift of the top six with just eight games to go, and the focus is already turning to next season.

New manager Paul Heckingbottom will be looking to shape his squad, and Leeds ultimately must produce a better summer transfer window than in 2017.

Not only did Leeds lose key players such as Robert Green, Charlie Taylor and Chris Wood, but the players they brought in have largely failed to impress.

Samu Saiz has fared well since his move from Huesca, but Felix Wiedwald, Mateusz Klich, Pawel Cibicki, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Jay-Roy Grot haven’t impressed, with Klich and Borthwick-Jackson already gone.

That has resulted in fans calling for director of football Victor Orta to be sacked for his poor signings, but Leeds managing director Angus Kinnear has dropped a hint over the Spaniard’s future.

Kinnear has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds have already agreed their recruitment strategy this summer, with owner Andrea Radrizzani, manager Heckingbottom and director of football Orta all on board, meaning there appears to be no immediate plan to sack the former Middlesbrough man.

Kinnear also suggested that Leeds will have learnt from this season’s incomings and promised fans an exciting transfer window, which may just hint that the Whites will look to experienced Championship performers rather than solely looking to the European market.

“The board has agreed a recruitment strategy with the head coach, director of football and scouting team, founded on the learnings from this season and we are expecting an exciting summer,” said Kinnear. “Our objective is to secure a play-off place, which we believe is achievable based on our resources and the scale of our fan base. The head coach and all of the players are clear that a packed Elland Road and the phenomenal vocal support of the Leeds United fan base are critical in meeting our target,” he added.
